This house was the residence of Hosokawa Gyobu, younger brother of Hosokawa Tadatoshi, a feudal lord or “daimyo” of Kumamoto. After once being moved, it was returned to its original location and renovated. The house was built in the traditional “shoin-tsukuri” construction style. Its formal tea ceremony room and old fashioned kitchen give visitors a fascinating glimpse into the way of life of samurai.
